Lawnmowers wanted:

Helpers for the lawnmower drawing by Ralf Witthaus !

The wind art festival "bewegter wind" is looking for people from the Wolfhagen region to lend a hand for the art project "PERPETUUM" by Ralf Witthaus on 9 and 10 August 2023."Who would like to join us in drawing a several-hundred-metre-long perpetuum in the landscape with cordless and power scythes?" Ralf Witthaus asks interested local citizens - the artist is in the process of preparing his design for the art festival "bewegter wind".

For the international art competition "beyond ... beyond", he is planning a double path cut into the lawn that keeps crossing. The artist had held out the prospect of drawing this aesthetic double path, swinging from right to left, across every green space that the festival is allowed at the two locations Nothfelden and Philippinenburg. With this offer, the artwork "PERPETUUM" will not only occupy an already large area, but will also refer endlessly to the landscape beyond.

At present, the curator Reta Reinl has earmarked three meadows for the landscape artwork on which the drawing can unfold over a length of about 450 metres.

Some helpers have already signed up in advance, but the artist still needs some support for this large-scale project. The artist offers the helpers a unique experience in return: "The drawing itself is only one part of this art, its performative part is just as important to me. The work is a celebration for everyone: we work together - we eat together - we communicate with the walkers." There is a dress code for the team: white shirt and black trousers are compulsory for men, women can wear other festive clothes in black and white. Being of age is obligatory for the use of chainsaws, as are visor helmets and steel-toed shoes, these are provided by STIHL.

Ralf Witthaus' art form is known for being a Sisyphean task, because everything quickly grows back on its own. There is a special poetry to the work, as it is an unusual interplay of artistic work, drawing, performance and landscape experience. The artist is looking forward to hearing from interested citizens of the region who would like to be part of the art project for one or maybe two days.
